CALABASH, NC – The Pearl Golf Links, one of the premier courses in the Myrtle Beach, SC and Brunswick County, North Carolina area, announces new changes to the course design which will affect the pattern of play for golfers in 2020 while sustaining the course for years to come.

Effective January 1st, 2020 the course will be converted into a 27-hole layout divided into three Nines: The East Nine; the North Nine; and the West Nine.

Golfers will play 3 unique combinations of 18-holes on a rotating basis.

The New Pearl East 18 is a Par-71.  It will begin on the former Pearl East 18.

The New Pearl North 18 is a Par-72.  It will start on the former Pearl West Course.

The New Pearl West 18 is a par-73 which will combine parts of the old Pearl East and Pearl West with six holes directly on the scenic Calabash River.

The new 27-hole design will also help The Pearl’s sustainability.  In 2019, the greens were renovated with the more sustainable MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermuda Grass.  Having consistent turf throughout the course streamlines maintenance efforts.

These changes work well with the major investments in the overall facility that were completed in 2019.  They included: improved tee boxes, course drainage; tree removal to open more natural views of the surrounding marshlands and Calabash River.

Additionally, ownership is taking hands-on involvement in the future of The Pearl.   Odell D. Williamson Jr. has assumed the role of General Manager to oversee day-to-day operations and provide family representation.

Odell says, “We really wanted to get this golf course back to where it used to be, to where we believe it should be. We love this course. This course is very near and dear to our hearts.”

The Pearl Golf Links is tucked quietly on the banks of the Brunswick coastal marshland in the heart of Calabash, North Carolina, and just a short drive from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Pearl golf course showcases the spectacular 900-acre marsh surroundings. The golf course is open to the public year-round and offers seasonal specials for snowbirds as well as golf packages for vacationers. The Pearl Golf Links is part of the New Myrtle Beach Golf Trail & Brunswick Golf Trail group of courses.
